World Food Day

Tomorrow is a day we should all take part in. We don’t have throw a huge dinner for 200 people or decide from here on out to only eat 100% organic. It doesn’t have to be that extreme, but if we all do a little bit and come together as a community we can help fight world hunger.

“World Food Day, October 16, was first observed in 1981. Organizations around the world mobilize advocacy campaigns and events on October 16 to strengthen the political will to end hunger.  World Food Day offers the opportunity to strengthen national and international solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty and draw attention to achievements in food security and agricultural development,” states World Food Day USA.

All it takes is to get involved and stay connected. Shop your local farmers markets and produce stands. Choose to eat sustainably, grow a garden, get your community involved, volunteer your time, engage your schools, the possibilites are endless. It only takes one person to start a ripple effect. If we can do a little, we can change the world and stop world hunger.

Kelly is also a published author; her fiction novel, "The Road to Chianti" and her summer and winter cookbooks, "Farm Foodie Fitness Homegrown.” She has been featured in Mind Body Green, Charleston Home Magazine, and many other publications.
