Create Your Own All Natural Spa Day

The holidays are right around the corner, the carefree days of summer are drawing to a close. For me, the end of summer means life getting busier, the kids are back in school and the responsibilities are endless. It is important to remember if you want to continue to give your best to everyone else you have to take some time to care for yourself. Instead of spending a ton of money at the spa, carve out a couple hours and create your own “all natural” spa day.

I recommend making the sugar scrub and the face mask before you begin your beauty treatments, so without further ado…

Part One: Spa Treatment Recipes

Yogurt, Honey & Oats Face Mask

*Good for all skin types/ Moisturizing & Hydrating


Mix Equal Parts:

Plain yogurt

Ground Oats (if you want to grind your own oats, just whirl them quick in the blender or food processor)

Mix with 1 tsp. honey (use enough to make desired consistency.)

Don’t put it on quite yet, we will get to that in part two.

Super Smooth Skin Sugar Scrub

Mix 2 parts Sugar (white or brown, fine grain)

With 1 part oil (I recommend virgin organic coconut oil)

5 drops essential oils (optional)

Additional Needed Items:

Additional Honey and coconut oil

Epsom salts

Peppermint essential oil

Baking soda

Wash cloths

Foot bath

Saran wrap or shower cap

Part Two: Let the Pampering Begin

Put on some relaxing music and step into a steamy shower.

Step one is cleansing and exfoliating your face, take a tablespoon of honey and put it on a wet washcloth, sprinkle with baking soda and massage lightly into skin, in a circular motion. Rinse well.

Step two, apply a quarter size amount of coconut oil to scalp (more or less depending on length), massage or comb through to ends of hair. Do not rinse out. Get out of shower and wrap hair in shower cap or saran wrap.

Step three, fill the foot bath with hot water and add Epsom salts and 15 drops peppermint essential oil (great for tired aching feet). Wet a washcloth and put it in the microwave for 30 second intervals until steamy hot. Make sure your face mask is within arms reach. Sit down, soak your tired feet, relax, and place hot, steamy washcloth over face, to open your pores. Sit for 15 minutes. Remove washcloth and put mask on. Leave mask on for 10-15 minutes. Continue to soak your feet and relax.

Step four, get back into the shower for your super smooth skin sugar scrub treatment. Do not turn on the water, the scrub works best when applied to dry skin. Rub scrub all over body with hands, a washcloth or a loofah. Massage into skin in a circular motion to remove dead skin and rejuvenate. Turn on water, rinse hair and body well. Shampoo remaining oil out of hair, you may not need to do any additional conditioning.

You should emerge from your own personal spa day relaxed and rejuvenated, ready to face whatever comes your way. Everyone benefits when you take care of yourself so repeat your spa day as often as necessary.
